What permanent daylight saving time means

An honest case for permanent DST: later winter sunsets by the clock, darker mornings, and the permanent standard time alternative.

Our position: keep daylight time

We support one final spring-forward and no future fall-back in places that observe seasonal DST. This is advocacy for a particular clock setting, not a claim that government can lengthen the day.

Two ways to stop changing clocks

Permanent DST keeps the clock one hour ahead of standard time throughout the year. Permanent standard time keeps the winter setting throughout the year. Both remove seasonal transitions; they distribute clock daylight differently. NIST rules.

Why we favor the evening

For people whose work or school ends at a fixed clock time, later sunset can make room for an outdoor walk, errands or recreation in winter. These are campaign priorities, not guaranteed health, safety or economic outcomes.

The cost is a later morning

Winter sunrise would also read one hour later. Early workers and children traveling to school can spend more of their morning in darkness. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine favors permanent standard time for circadian alignment. Ending transitions does not establish which permanent setting is healthier. Try it where you live

Geography and time-zone position matter. Compare sunrise and sunset and consider both your morning and evening schedule. Our model preserves standard-time exceptions in Phoenix, Tucson, and Honolulu rather than adding an hour everywhere.
